  • Cabo keeps growing!

Living here in Cabo going on seven years, let me tell you that I have seen many great changes.  When we first moved in 2001, there was no major grocery store to shop at.  There were lots of little grocery stores that had little to offer.  We had to made semi-annual trips back to the states for supplies, yes those were the days.  I recall my first Thanksgiving here in 2002. I shopped at least 15 stores looking for ingredients to make this special dinner….lots of substitutes were used that year. We were going to make pumpkin  pie, but the two cans of pumpkin we bought were black and rotten inside and the whipped cream we bought was sour…..so no pumpkin pie that year!

Then one year we had two major grocery store chains open and Costco all within three months of each other.  That was the beginning of my seeing the growth of Cabo.  We now have many great places to shop, such as the Super Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, CityClub, Home Depot, Office Depot, Office Max, Blockbusters, Mega, Leys and many more.  In fact we are finally getting our very own Starbucks at last.  It is incredible.    I no longer have to burden friends and family to over pack their luggage on their visit here with extras for me.

There are many great restaurants/bars along the Cabo Marina as is the three-story Mall, Puerto Paraiso.  It has taken many years to fill up the mall and it is almost full.  However, there are many great stores to shop at and new ones opening all the time.  You can find a movie theater at the mall plus the new Caliente gamble hall with many video slot machines, horse racing and sports betting.   There is also a video game hall with lots of games for children and adults alike which offers bowling lanes, pool tables, video games, Amusement park style games, bumper cars, rides for the smallest tikes and much more.

Overnight it seems that our housing boom hit.  Every turn you make there is a new development breaking ground, making affordable housing a reality for foreign buyers.   We have witnessed many folks mostly from the states purchase their vacation or retirement homes.  Those who make it to Cabo seem to fall immediately in love with it and don’t want to leave.  The warm weather, beaches and endless views plus the close proximity to the states make this place a must have.  Many of my clients have become great friends and that is the best part of my job.

Yes, there have been many great changes over the last few years but for us who live here, it is great!

  • Puerto Los Cabos

Puerto Los Cabos is an in creditable development with view of the Sea of Cortez to Palmilla Point.  Most homes being built are extremely large, and in the multimillion dollar range.  Lots depending on location can run you from mid $400,000 to over a million for send row.  First row lots are about $6.2 million.  But the community will be spectacular with gorgeous home and as I said endless view from most lots.

Puerto Los Cabos signature golf courses are green and ready to go.  The beach club takes your breath away with its beauty, ocean views (beach front of course) and swimming pools that seem to run right into the ocean seamlessly.  It is a beautiful place to hang out, have lunch and relax in the pool as you take in the endless views.

Puerto Los Cabos is the only development in Los Cabos with its own (brand new) marina.  This development was created to provide its homeowners with everything at their fingertips.

The process of the bridge over the arroyo is moving at long last.  I think we will see its completion before summers end.  This will make access to Puerto Los Cabos more convenient.

I would love to share more information about Puerto Los Cabos with you at any time.  Just email me at judy@dreamhomesofcabo.com

  • Current Real Estate Market in Los Cabos

We have all heard the horror stories of the economy back in the United States and how the real estate market is suffering.   The affects are felt here in Los Cabos to a degree.  The lower end properties (under a million dollar range) have slowed down while the high end properties (a million dollars and up) keep selling like hot cakes.  This only proves that those fortunate people (the very rich) spend despite hard times as they are only slightly affected by the downward market trends in the States.    Most of these folks have been planning for years to purchase their second or vacation/retirement homes, therefore have the disposable income set aside for their purchases.

Los Cabos has experienced an urban development boom.   Everywhere you turn there are new developments.   Between March 2007 and March 2008, $1.2 billion dollars were spent on new developments.  These new developments include homes and hotels/resorts.  An astonishing 1,180 construction licenses were granted, of those 655 went to home builders, 68 to developments and 21 to hotels/resorts plus 28 went to urbanization projects.   Interestingly, 60% of those building permits were for developments/project in San Jose del Cabo and 40% to Cabo.

  • Living in Cabo

I had been coming to Cabo on vacation for about 10 years before my husband convinced me to retire early and make this our home.  I have been here full now for over six years and loving every minute of it.   Even though I am an early retiree, there is no way I can retiree completely and found an exciting world of Real Estate in Mexico.

Over the past six years I have seen many, many homes, condos and developments.  I will use this blog from time to time to talk about some of them from my point of view.  We have grown leaps and bounds over the last four years with new developments popping up everywhere to provide you with some fabulous homes with awesome ocean views.  Home here are affordable, and if you try and compare these homes and views to anything you could purchase in the states, you will be surprised that it truly is far, far less expensive.

Living in Cabo is unique the American/Canadian community are a strong and there is always someone who is there to help you.   You never have to feel like you are alone in a foreign country because you will have many friends who are always willing to share their experiences and show you the way.

I have gained many friends who were clients and purchased their home or condo through me.  It is rewarding to know you have the power to make people happy and satisfied with their purchases.

As I mentioned above, I will be back to write about the different developments in and around Cabo in my future Blogs.
